Sports massage uses a combination of techniques to relax, stretch and manipulate tired or stressed soft tissue which is particularly prevalent in sport people/active people. Depending on the area in question deep tissue techniques and movement are used in order combat the tightness that is caused by regular activity and to help prevent injury.

Dry cupping therapy is an alternative therapy that is incorporated alongside massage in order to bring about increased relaxation of the soft tissue. Suction cups are applied to areas of concern increasing circulation and assisting relaxation through the stretch reflex created by the cups.

Surrounding and connecting all the soft tissues of the body is fascia. It is a weblike structure that when healthy and working efficiently is fluid filled and springy, allowing all the underlying structures to move and perform at their optimum level. When Fascia isn’t working efficiently it becomes ‘stuck’ over the underlying soft tissues which in turn prevents them from working properly. There are many things that can affect the efficient working of the fascia in the body, from emotional trauma, repetitive strain or surgery and injury. It can be one or many of these things that someone can be affected by and when the fascia becomes damaged, dehydrated and ‘sticky’, it can lead to pain.

Myofascial Releases is a gentle treatment that aims to ‘unstick’ the fascia. Techniques are used to help unravel the damaged fascia and allow it to become fluid filled and springy again. Although the treatment is gentle and slow in comparison to some other body work, it has the ability to affect the deeper tissues and helps to restore blood flow, movement and flexibility and therefore help reduce pain.
